Advancing Sri Lanka’s Energy Infrastructure: A Positive Step for Renewable Energy
Recent developments in Sri Lanka’s energy sector were marked by Senior Vice President (SVP) Mr. Shohei Hara (SVP) visiting a significant energy project site. The visit highlighted the progress of the National Transmission and Distribution Network Development and Efficiency Improvement Project, funded by a JICA loan of approximately 25 billion Japanese Yen (USD 160 million).
Mr. Shohei Hara (SVP) And The National Transmission & Distribution Network
Firstly, Mr. Shohei Hara (SVP) & the project’s goal is to reinforce Sri Lanka’s transmission and distribution network. This will ensure a more stable electricity supply for the country. By introducing high-voltage, low-loss transmission lines, power loss will be reduced. Consequently, energy savings and emission reductions will follow. These efforts align with global goals for efficiency and sustainability.
Mr. Shohei Hara Presents Resumption Of Project Amidst Challenges
The project had faced delays due to the financial default in April 2022. However, operations resumed in July 2024 after an agreement between creditors and the government. During the visit, Mr. Shohei Hara (SVP) praised the progress made under such difficult conditions. He emphasized the need for timely completion to deliver benefits to Sri Lankans.
Implications for Renewable Energy
A stronger grid will enable better integration of renewable energy sources. Solar energy, in particular, will benefit from improved transmission stability and efficiency. These advancements make future solar projects more viable.
The efforts by Mr. Shohei Hara (SVP) also highlight JICA’s commitment to green energy. This creates an environment for solar companies like us to contribute even more effectively.
Positive Outlook for Solar Energy
Therefore improvements to the transmission network are paving the way for a greener future. Solar power installations can now operate more efficiently.
Our Commitment
On Solar remains dedicated to supporting Sri Lanka’s renewable energy journey.
Mr Shohei Hara (SVP) & the progress of this project demonstrates the resilience of all involved stakeholders. We are optimistic about the positive impact it will have on integrating renewable energy sources. Together, we can build a sustainable future for Sri Lanka.
